Not snake oilFeb 18, 2010 This product really works - and works better than the many electrolyte drinks I had been using. I am training for a Challenged Athlete 1/2 ironman even, so I ride about 100-150 miles a week on my recumbent Inspired Cycle Engineering QNT trike. Many of my prescription medications interfere with metabolic functions during exercise, and so I frequently get leg cramps during and after rides. I tried taking Tums (calciu) and Mylanta (magnesium) before rides, and stay hydrated with both water and various sports drinks (36 oz/50 miles) but nothing seemed to cure the cramps. Substituting different medications helped (protonix in place of nexium, etc) and using non-fat choclate milk for a recovery drink also helped, but nothing seemed to solve the problem completely, and I would either get leg cramps by the end of the ride, or they would wake me up in the middle of the night after a days riding.
The first half century hills ride I did using Endurolytes I took 1/hour in place of any electolyte solutions, and maintained my 36 oz water intake. Amazing, no cramps - just a faint 'pre-cramp' twitching towards the end of the ride. No problems that evening. 2 days later, in warmer (80+ degree) weather, I did another 1/2 century hills ride. I didn't do my normal slow and flat short recovery ride, because it was the nicest Feb day I had seen in a while, rain was expected to curtail my riding all next week, and I was curious about how well the Endurolyte would work. I took 1 tablet every 45 minutes, and not even a twitch. Muscles felt slightly tired at the beginning of the ride, and let me know they had been used by the end, but no cramps during or after the ride.
I took each of the Endurolytes with a part of a Quaker granola bar just to make sure there would not be any stomache issues, and there weren't. I'm sold, these will go with me on all future rides.
Best electrolyte replacementDec 03, 2009 In my opinion, endurolytes are better than the other electrolyte replacement products I have tried for these reasons:
1) They separate electrolyte replacement from energy (food). Let's say you are going to run two marathons. Same distance, of course, but at one the weather will be 55 degrees Fahrenheit and moderate humidity. At the other it is going to get up to 78 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity. The amount of calories you will need for the two events will likely be quite similar. However, the amount of electrolytes you will lose is going to be very different. If you use a sports drink, then your electrolytes will come with a certain amount of calories. You might get inadequate electrolytes and/or too many calories (yes, you most definitely can take in too many) at the hot event and too much electrolytes and/or too few calories at the cooler one. With endurolytes, you take in the amount you need, and you get your calories from another source.
2) They have ALL the electrolytes, not just sodium, like many competitive products.
I personally don't tend to need a lot of electrolytes, so I take lighter doses than most folks, but in hot weather I always carry these while training and adventure racing, and have always been pleased with the results. As with any sports nutrition product, you will need to try this out in training to see what amount works best for you in various conditions.
incredible product!Nov 24, 2009 I am a triathlete and I started taking these a couple weeks ago because I am a very salty sweater. I do not usually write reviews but I found these to be so helpful I thought I had to. They COMPLETELY eliminate muscle soreness and cramping, even after very long, hard workouts. I feel like I can workout much harder now with no ill effects. I had problems with my calves cramping during swimming and taking one pill before a swim workout has also eliminated that. I would definitely recommend this product.

A real game changerJul 31, 2009 My first duathlon I tried just going at it with some gatorade on my bike and I cramped up miserably by the end of the bike portion. Since then I've started taking endurolytes before the race and during each transition along with a hammer gel packet before the race and at the first transition and I drink HEED during the bike. It makes all the difference in the world. My first duathlon I ended up with micro-tears in my calf muscles and was off my feet for a couple days. Now I can get back on the road the same day for a nice cool down.
