Needed a new running belt to accommodate a Blackberry.Apr 12, 2009 I have been using an older model of this water belt for years. It was made by "GU" (the carbo gel company) but it is very similar to this unit. (I am pretty sure the "GU" belt is an Ultimate belt that was a custom labeled to be used as trade show swag). I have gone from a small cell phone to a Blackberry Storm (I am on call and need to carry my phone during runs) and the Blackberry doesn't fit in the old belt.
Well, this belt will accommodate the Blackberry. That's good. Also the belt is comfortable and can be worn on long runs without problem. I have a GoLite fanny pack that took a lot of skin during a long run a couple weeks ago.
My old GU belt had an issue where the water bottle would fall out frequently. This new pack has the opposite issue - the water bottle is in there quite tightly, but I think it will loosen up and eventually be "just right."
The water bottle that cam with this belt is very odd. It has a rubber nipple that is something like a baby's bottle. It is hard to get the water out and I have to squeeze the bottle while biting down on the nipple. Fortunately I have a dozen or more water bottles so I will probably just avoid using this one.
Update:
After using this belt for a couple of months I have to say that it works for me and I like it but I have two issues:
1.) The bottle holder is still really tight. It takes two hands to get it out or put it back in and trail running with both hands behind the back is NOT a good idea.
2.) The belt comes lose after every run. I'm growing weary of putting it on, starting a run and having to stop after a couple of minutes, remove the belt, make it tighter every run. Why can't a company that makes a simple product like this make one that works? Bike helmets have a little rubber thing that keeps the strap from going out of adjustment - why not something like that? Maybe I'll modify it.
Over-all this is a pretty good product and accommodates my Blackberry. I use it nearly every day.
